martensite transformation and twinning deformation in fcc cobalt during surface mechanical attrition treatment

چکیده
The deformation microstructure of face-centered cubic cobalt subjected to surface mechanical attrition treatment was studied as a function of strain levels. Strain-induced c ! e transformation and twinning deformation were evidenced by transmission electron microscopy and were found to progress continuously in ultrafine and nanocrystalline grains as the strain increased. 2004 Acta Materialia Inc. Effect of Deformation Temperature on the Mechanical Behavior of a New TRIP/TWIP Steel Containing 21% Manganese
In recent years, TRIP/TWIP steels have been the focus of great attention thanks due to their excellent tensile strength-ductility combination. The compression tests were performed at different temperatures from 25 to1000°C to study the mechanical behavior of advanced austenitic steel with 21% manganese plus bearing Ti. The results indicated that the plastic deformation is controlled by deformat...
متن کاملDissecting the Mechanism of Martensitic Transformation via Atomic-Scale Observations
Martensitic transformation plays a pivotal role in the microstructural evolution and plasticity of many engineering materials. However, so far the underlying atomic processes that accomplish the displacive transformation have been obscured by the difficulty in directly observing key microstructural signatures on atomic scale. To resolve this long-standing problem, here we examine an AISI 304 au...
متن کاملRigorous version of ınfinitesimal deformation approach to the crystallography of fcc bcc martensitic phase transformation observed in Fe-31 wt Ni and zirconia alloys
Following the mathematical approach of Kelly (2003), rigorous version of infinitesimal deformation approach (ID) was applied to analyze fcc bcc martensitic phase transformation observed in Fe-31wt Ni alloys considering the twinning shear system as the lattice invariant system (LIS). The expressions for crystallographical parameters associated with the martensitic phase transformation such as...
متن کاملStrain-Induced Martensite Transformation Simulations during Cold Rolling of AISI 301 Austenitic Stainless Steel
Austenite is a semi-stable phase in most stainless steels that deforms to martensite under Md30 and forms martensitetype ά and ε due to the deformation in the steels. Since the distribution of strain induced martensite plays animportant role in achieving desired properties, the main objective of the present work is to model martensitedistribution of ά during cold rolling using...
متن کاملTWIP-effect and thermo-mechanical treatment of a stable high-manganese austenitic stainless steel
Austenitic carbon steels that exhibit excellent mechanical properties due to the twinning-induced plasticity effect have been studied extensively. On the other hand, austenitic stainless steels usually achieve good strength and ductility via transformation-induced plasticity. However, relying on martensite transformation for strength may cause problems such as delayed cracking. Therefore, the t...
